I came to Vancouver on a whim, had some tough times … the rain and the clouds was a culture shock. From a quick glance the Vancouver music scene arts culture was majorly lacking. 2 months in and my mind was made up that I was moving east, Toronto, Chicago, NY? A short time past my first gig call,
(subbing for Graham Ellsworth, thank you.) and 200 or so gigs later, I’m a happy player deeply embedded in the Vancouver music scene, my eyes wide open to the possibilities of a city that is young and developing … Looking to create.
I’ve been fortunate enough to play with players like Kelly Brown, Rob Hamilton, Adam Thomas, Scott Tucker, Myles Bigelow, Derek Defilipio, and Max Zipursky and many more talented and inspiring musicians on a normal basis. Without friends and colleagues like these, Vancouver could have turned into a lonely and stagnant city.
Recently I’ve gotten involved with music groups Blank Cinema, Myles Bigelow, Zephyr, and David Ward Trio. All four groups bring a completely different style and sound to the stage. A sound that I appreciate and look forward to creating music with.
As far as drum students, I’ve taken on 20 or so, in my time here in Vancouver, some have stayed with me and some have moved on, just to grab a little insight to drumming and to continue their musical journey on their own or with other instructors and friends.
Caleb and the Swain family have been an awesome addition into my life, not only through music lessons but as family, and friends as well. Krysten, Sabastion, Jaime, Andrea, Myan and Michelle .. Thank you all I’ve enjoyed our time spent together.
To sum up, I want to send out a large ALOHA to all the musicians, students, friends, and family for supporting and helping with this successful relocation to Vancouver, where I now call home. I look forward to all the upcoming music sessions, Lessons, and everyday life experiences.
